SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN: Industry meeting place number one

At last, the time has come again: From September 11th to 15th the industry will meet at SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN 2023 at Messe Essen for everything to do with joining, cutting and surfacing. Over 800 companies from more than 40 countries will present their innovative products and services. Among them are market leaders such as Lincoln, ESAB, MicroStep, ABICOR BINZEL, EWM, Fronius, Messer Cutting and voestalpine, but also numerous hidden champions, start-ups, research institutions and associations. Oliver P. Kuhrt, CEO of Messe Essen: "As usual, the world's leading trade fair thus covers the entire international value chain. The response from exhibitors and visitors is overwhelming. Together with our partner DVS - Deutscher Verband für Schweißen und verwandte Verfahren e.V. (German Welding Society), we are looking forward to offering the industry its high-quality and precisely fitting platform for innovations, lead generation, investment decisions and professional exchange."

An optimized hall layout makes participation in the trade show particularly easy and effective. Halls 1 to 5 focus on welding, while halls 6 to 8 accommodate exhibitors from all aspects of cutting. "This strategic arrangement makes for easy orientation and ensures that trade visitors will find related products such as surface technology, heat treatment, gases, consumables and filler materials, equipment, safety, health, quality assurance, service and digitization in close proximity to one another," explains Christina Kleinpaß, project manager of SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN.

Interactive digitization rally leads to value-added innovations

Many exhibitors will be focusing on digital innovations. For the first time, trade visitors of SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN will have the opportunity to use a rally to find out from companies about digital best practices in the industrial interaction of machines, people, AI and software. In cooperation with the IndustryFusion Foundation IFF and DVS, this offer is designed to lead participants across the entire exhibition grounds to a wide variety of companies. Guided by the SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN app, trade visitors can talk directly to the companies and obtain information. The app will be available for download in the App Store and Play Store shortly before the start of the trade fair. DVS Managing Director Dr.-Ing. Roland Boecking explains, "Digitalization in welding technology enables the functional fusion of manufacturing processes and information technologies as well as innovative digital welder training and education. Therefore, the rally is an excellent opportunity to experience a whole new level of workflows in work and business processes."

Specialized areas provide a concentrated trade show experience

Compact and easily accessible information - with numerous themed areas and events, SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN offers valuable input for business. Here are a few highlights:

·         Whether for energy generation or raw material extraction, underwater technology is becoming increasingly important. Companies and institutions will present new approaches and innovative products at the joint booth in exhibition hall 7 (booth 7G13). Demonstrations in a diving container provide exciting insights into this work, which is challenging for both people and technology.

·         The topic of underwater technology will be rounded off by the two-day DVS conference of the same name. On September 12 and 13, experts will provide information on the latest developments in research and technology - for example, the non-destructive evaluation of hardness in the heat-affected zone of underwater welded components. Another block of topics includes practical contributions from underwater technology such as the fatigue and fracture behavior of butt and fillet welds welded underwater.

·         At international pavilions, companies from one nation each will present themselves together. This year, exhibitors from China (Halls 4, 6, 7), France (Hall 5), Japan (Hall 8), Korea (Hall 4), Taiwan (Hall 8) and the USA (Hall 1) will give trade visitors a unique overview of their innovations.

·         Many new developments in the industry come from recently founded companies. As part of the "Young Innovative Companies" program, sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, German start-ups will be presenting their forward-looking developments in Hall 3 (Booth 3A47).

DVS CONGRESS with high-quality technical input

As a partner of SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN, DVS offers trade visitors numerous opportunities for information and professional exchange with events accompanying the trade fair. From September 11th to 14th, for example, the DVS CONGRESS will take place with lectures from operational practice and numerous application-oriented research results from the completed projects of the Forschungsvereinigung Schweißen und verwandte Verfahren e. V. im DVS (Research Association for Welding and Allied Processes). Digitalization in joining technology, occupational safety and welding technology for the energy transition are just a few of the highly topical focal points.

At the DVS CAMPUS, students of joining, cutting and coating technology will provide information on current results from their final theses. Further information at https://www.dvs-ev.de/2023/

The industry's young talents show their skills at the national "Jugend schweißt" competition. The grand finale will take place at SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN. In the four welding processes gas welding, tungsten inert gas welding, manual arc welding and metal active gas welding, the best welder no older than 23 will be honored. The International Welding Competition is an international event. Youngsters from all over the world will compete against each other in individual and team competitions. A maximum of four welders from countries such as Switzerland, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Italy will be represented.

With the support of DVS, the German Employers' Liability Insurance Association for Wood and Metal will be presenting the new "Safe Welding" initiative in Hall 8, Stand 8C15. It has set itself the task of enabling the sometimes challenging compliance with air limits during welding work by imparting knowledge relating to safe welding and measures to reduce welding fumes.
