MIG/MAG Robot and Automatic Welding Torches

MIG/MAG Robot and Automatic Welding Torches

Robotic welding torches are an important component in the modern manufacturing industry. Unlike manual welding processes, robotic welding torches can provide greater precision and speed. Robotic welding torches can be used in a wide range of applications, from automotive to aircraft parts manufacturing. They can also be used in other industries, such as the manufacture of piping or shipbuilding.

The advantages of robotic welding torches are numerous. They offer greater precision and speed than manual welding processes and can therefore reduce production time. They can also help improve the quality of welds and reduce scrap rates. Overall, robotic welding torches are an important part of the modern manufacturing industry and help improve production efficiency and quality.

A typical robotic welding torch consists of a torch unit that produces the welding material and a robotic arm that controls the torch unit. Mechafin AG has focused on the production of the torch unit for many years.

Gas-cooled and water-cooled torch units for robots and automatic machines are available.
They are characterised by the following features:

  • Simple and compact design
  • Technically mature, easy to service
  • Reproducible torch position
  • Improved duty cycle due to innovative cooling
  • Torch arc 180° / 45° / 22.5

Wire feeders

Wire feeders

2-roll and 4-roll wire feeders

MECHAFIN wire feeders are divided into 3 main families according to the size of the feed rolls: 30mm, 37mm, 40mm.

The feed plates are available in fibreglass reinforced plastic or aluminium. Depending on the series, the pressure arms are available in plastic, aluminium or steel.

Different drives and different DC motors from 40 to 250W and up to 270rpm are available for each series. There are also a variety of motors with encoders or tachometers.

Wire straightener

Wire straightener

Simple, cost-effective single module for wire diameters from 0.5 mm to 3.0 mm.

For a smooth MIG /MAG welding process, it is important to feed the welding wire evenly. Wire straighteners are used to eliminate disturbing deformations of the wire caused by winding on the spool, in the barrel or during transport before further processing. MECHAFIN supplies straighteners of proven, robust design.

They can be installed as a single module or in series offset by 60° in front of the wire feeder, resulting in a cleanly 360° straightened wire. The ideal solution for wire problems in automated or semi-automated robotic applications.

Wire feed rolls

Wire feed rolls

Wire feed rolls - for reliable welding wire feeding

It is important that the wire feed rolls are matched to the welding wire. They are an integral part of the wire feed unit and are responsible for ensuring that the welding wire is correctly fed through the hose assembly.

Therefore, the wire feed rollers in the MIG /MAG machine must always be selected to match the welding wire and, if necessary, rotated or even replaced. Only the correct design ensures that the welding wire can be fed without any problems.

Push-Pull Systems

Push-Pull Systems

Extend your torch up to 25m

MECHAFIN's Push-Pull unit is an intermediate drive unit to which the conventional welding torch can be connected. It reduces friction in the wire feed path, which in turn results in a smooth feed and minimises damage to the wire. This gives the welder the freedom and mobility he is used to and thus ensures an optimum welding result.

The major advantage of the MEXDRIVE intermediate unit over the first generation of MECHAFIN push-pull systems is the use of a separable hose package that can be changed directly on site, which is easily done via the two Euro central connections.

Company profile

Mechafin AG develops and manufactures welding torches, wire drive systems
and welding accessories for industrial use under the harshest conditions.

Based in Geroldswil, a suburb of Zurich, and founded in 1965 by Otto Schoch.
Early on, the company specialised in the development and production of of inert gas shielded torches for MIG welding and wire drive systems for demanding applications.
“The high demands of our customers are our daily challenge and motivation.”

Many years of experience in a medium-sized company environment with a high degree of
flexibility for customers helped Mechafin gain an international reputation as a unique partner. Driven by a passion for pragmatic and reliable solutions, Mechafin manages to meet the needs and expectations of its customers every day.

Mechafin welding torches and wire drive systems are used worldwide in a wide range of industries, for example in shipyards, on oil platforms, in coal mines, in the automotive and railroad industries

Whether liquid or gas cooled welding torches, whether you want to weld aluminium or other materials, you can be sure to find the right equipment and the best solution
in the Mechafin range. Mechafin welding torches are robust and long-lasting, and
guarantee smooth welding processes at all times with maximum performance for manual,
semi-automatic and fully automatic use as well as for use with robots.

A wide range of accessories is available for all welding torches, such as liners, gas diffusers, nozzles and contact tips.

As with the welding torches, Mechafin also focuses on the highest quality «Made in Switzerland” and on the best possible reliability and durability for the wire drive systems. The wire drive systems are available in three main product lines, based on feed roll sizes of 30mm, 37mm and 40mm. Different drives and DC motors are available for each series, ranging from 40 to 250 W at up to 270 rpm. There is also a wide range of motors with encoders or tachometers.

Production takes place both in Switzerland and in England, at the subsidiary Mechafin UK LTD, which was founded in 1990.

Innovation in the development of new equipment, in close collaboration with customers, has distinguished Mechafin on the international market for many years. Mechafin AG is supplier to most of the leading welding equipment manufacturers.
