Closed chamber orbital welding head MW34

Polysoude has expanded its range of closed chamber welding heads with the MW 34, with an application range of six to 34 millimeter. Just like all the other welding heads from this series, the MW is in high demand, due to its ease of use with the controls placed directly on the handle of the head and a high duty cycle which meets growing market demand. 

The MW welding head is the ideal product regarding size capability, meeting not only the reduced radial space requirements of the micro-fittings industry but also the quality requirements of pharmacology and food industries. Another considerable advantage of this welding head: the casing (TCI), used for all closed chamber welding heads by Polysoude, is made of titanium, this allows response to variations in temperature on the outer diameter of tubes. By using titanium, Polysoude is in a position to provide both a lifetime casing warranty and also the possibility to avoid all performance loss over time in comparison with aluminum casing.

WELD OVERLAY

WELD OVERLAY

Weld overlay is applied whenever a long service life is expected from expensive components or when the workpiece cannot be produced entirely from the proper wear-resistant material. Weld overlay of piping and manifolds is common in petrochemical industry applications and for power plant equipment; in the aeronautic industry, components for aircraft engine components are also often reinforced using this process.

The TIGer technology is the outcome of a technological development by POLYSOUDE, a variant of TIG Hot Wire cladding. The basic principle involves the juxtaposition of two TIG arcs, organised and controlled to be combined into one single arc with the calorific value of the combination of both powers, but with characteristics which are unusual for such intensities.

TUBE-TO-TUBESHEET WELDING HEADS

TUBE-TO-TUBESHEET WELDING HEADS

POLYSOUDE provides different configurations of tube-to-tubesheet equipment according to the application and special requirements:

  • A closed chamber welding head such as the TS 34 allows the execution of fusion welding without the addition of filler wire.
  • An open welding head with AVC configuration such as the TS 8-75 allows the use of multiple welding heads with filler wire by one operator. The electrode to workpiece distance can be programmed and is kept constant without interruption of the weld cycle.
  • An open welding head without AVC configuration is particularly suitable for single layer welding. Two layers must be welded in two separate steps.

Polysoude offers modular welding heads which easily adapt to various applications for tube to tube welding and meet the increasing quality requirements for materials which are often difficult to weld:

  • Closed chamber welding heads such as the UHP and MW: for precised welding in high purity industries, especially designed for autogenous welding of tubes without filler wire

  • Open welding heads such as the MU IV and MU IV 195 HW: conceived for orbital TIG welding with or without filler wire, can be carried out manually or by means of motorised slides: Arc Voltage Control (AVC) and torch oscillation (OSC)

  • Carriage-type welding heads such as the Polycar 30, Polycar 60, Polycar 60 PLC and Polycar MP: the most versatile torch carrier which travel around the tubes on suitable rails or tracks, which can be mounted on any tube OD from 32 mm (1,3") upwards

WELDING POWER SOURCES

WELDING POWER SOURCES

Polysoude provides high performance welding equipment for various applications . A power source for orbital applications is composed of several subassemblies with specific functions each:

-          One or two Power Inverters to supply the welding current, and in case of hot wire welding, the current to heat up the filler wire. Today, state of the art sources are of the inverter type
-          Programmable control unit which is generally based on an integrated or external PC
-          Cooling circuit for the torch and the welding and clamping tools
-          Data acquisition system recording each welding sequence

The power sources for orbital welding can be divided in 3 categories with specific fields of application:

  • Portable power sources such as the PS 164-2 and P4
  • Medium-sized mobile power sources such as the P6 CW and P6 HW
  • Full-size power sources such as the PC 600-3

Polysoude has been published in the EHEDG yearbook 2017/2018

The European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group network (EHEDG) provides a forum for food processing equipment manufacturers, users, legislators and institutes to discuss issues concerning hygienic design and to stimulate food safety.

Polysoude has been a member of the EHEDG organisation since 2010. For every edition of the EHEDG yearbook Polysoude submits contents discussing the latest evolutions in welding technology for the high purity industries. We were again chosen for publication in the 2017/2018 edition. Our article "The key to quality" relates how manufacturers can meet hygienic security specifications with automated orbital welding equipment.

Successful riser test with the “Cladiator” by Polysoude

Successful riser test with the “Cladiator” by Polysoude

For the Appomattox project of Shell Houston, Polysoude and SME Cladding BV joined their forces and knowledge to develop an internal bore cladding machine for a riser up to a length of 19 meters and weight of 25 T.

Bringing ID-cladding up to the next level, the installation called ‘Cladiator’ has been developed and manufactured by Polysoude. All the five risers for the project have been completed without any defects and in record time:

  • Welding speed = 800mm/min
  • Around 70hours to clad 1 riser of around 17,5m length with 2 layers (1,5mm and 2,2mm thickness respectively)
