Depending on the alloy, Deutsche Nickel GmbH's ingots are melted in various shapes and sizes in our own melt shop (IF, VIM, VIDP & ESR or VAR if necessary). Each individual ingot can weigh between 2 tonnes and 6 tonnes. These blocks are often used to produce plates, bars and slabs. According to customer requirements, we can supply ingots as follows:
› as poured ingot
› ground ingot
› fully dressed ingot with head and foot removed
The manufacturing processes are certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001, ISO/TS 16949, ISO 14001 and ISO 50001.

In order to produce billets, Deutsche Nickel GmbH's ingots are hot worked either by forging or hot-rolling. These billets are then supplied in the ground condition, typically with sharp edges, or with rounded edges if preferred. Depending on the intended application, the billets are then ultrasonically tested. The size range for these billets is from 100 - approx. 450mm, depending on alloy grade.
Subsequent processing of the billets then takes place in forging houses or hot-rolling mills to produce discs, flanges or rings. Furthermore the billets can also be used as raw material for profile manufacturers or to produce the blooms which are then processed into seamless tubes. Deutsche Nickel also uses their own billets as raw material for the manufacture of their wire and bar products.
Deutsche Nickel's bars are melted in our modern induction furnaces (IF), vacuum furnace (VIM) and vacuum induction degassing & pouring furnace (VIDP) and, if required, in electro-slag remelt (ESR) or vacuum arc remelt (VAR) furnaces, in accordance either with standard or customized chemical analyses.
The ingot blocks are then re-worked using forging or hot-rolling techniques and subsequently turned, peeled, cold-drawn and finally heat-treated, straightened and/or cut to length depending on final application.
Products are available in hot-worked or cold-drawn round, square, flat or hexagonal sections. Bars can be packaged in accordance with the customer's own requirements.
In our Wire Department, Deutsche Nickel's product range includes cold-drawn round wires, flat wires, rods, wire-rod and peeled wires. Deutsche Nickel's wires are melted in our modern induction furnaces (IF), vacuum furnace (VIM) and vacuum induction degassing & pouring furnace (VIDP) and, if required, in electro-slag remelt (ESR) or vacuum arc remelt (VAR) furnaces, in accordance either with standard or customized chemical analyses. The ingot blocks are then processed using various hot-working steps into wire-rod form. Depending on the particular wire application, the wire-rod is then pickled or peeled in preparation for the subsequent drawing and annealing processes and turned into round or flat wire.
According to customer packaging requirements the wire is then supplied on spools, in drums, in coils or on hats / coil carriers.
