Magnetically impelled arc butt welding

The welding arc under the influence of an external magnetic field moves in a narrow gap between butts of the tubes. The high speed of the arc, up to 300 m/s, allows for uniform heating of the ends over the entire welded surface of the pipes. The welded joint is formed by upset and joint plastic deformation butts of tubes.

Main practical advantages:

• welding consumables and shielding gas are not required;
• short welding time, tube OD 120×5 mm — 22 s;
• control and registration of the main parameters during the welding process;
• uniform and concentrated heating around the butt perimeter;
• the strength and ductility properties of welding joints at level of the base metal;
• automation of the welding process;
• high efficiency for industrial mass production.
